Our Program

Kindergarten

The Kindergarten program offers before and after school care to children attending school, as well as full-day care during spring break, summer holidays, Christmas holidays, and PD days.

We created an environment where your child can develop at their own pace, with the guidance of proven and trusted principles:

  • Practical life: refines fine-motor skills and develops focus and concentration. It follows a sequence, fosters independence and develops good work habits.
  • Sensorial: Hands-on materials isolate one concept at a time and guide a child to distinguish sound, colour, size, weight, texture, shape, taste and smell.
  • Language: Language is taught through a variety of multi-sensory activities; visual and auditory.  We have frequent librarian visits from Edmonton Public Library.  We visit the library and have reading with parents events. Our children are well prepared for school.
  • Math: Mathematics is introduced individually as the child demonstrates interest and readiness. We match each child’s ability to the appropriate materials so that his/her learning experiences are positive, rewarding and provide optimum learning at each stage of development.
  • Science & Culture: Science, history and geography are introduced and developed through materials that sharpen a child’s powers of observation and understanding of the world around them. They learn about people and flags of distant countries, and the cultural similarities that unite all people. Children work with puzzles and matching picture/word cards to learn the parts of flowers, trees, animals and insects. They also learn about growth cycles and plant seeds and observe the growing process.
  • Art & Music: Children are encouraged to express themselves creatively in everything they do, from painting, sculpture, singing and dancing. A variety of materials are always available for creative expression including crayons, paints, papers, markers, collage materials, glue, scissors, etc.  Children engage in activities which help to develop fine motor skills and creativity (gluing, cutting skills, hole punching, tying and taping)
  • Care of Self include such activities as washing hands and face, dressing themselves (zippers, buttons, snaps, etc.) tying/fastening their shoes, blowing their nose, pouring themselves a glass of water, or helping to prepare a snack.
  • Care of the Environment – tidying up after oneself, sweeping the floor, washing a table, wiping a spill, setting the table for meals and activities, and making the environment beautiful by decorating classrooms for special occasions.
  • Care of Others – watering plants, caring for a garden, feeding of birds and helping other children in the classroom.
  • Grace and Courtesy – use of manners, respect for others, kindness and empathy.

Out of School Care grade 1 -6

We value the uniqueness of each child’s personality, level of understanding and pace of learning.

The Out of School Care program offers before and after school care to children attending school, as well as full-day care during spring break, summer holidays, Christmas holidays, and PD days.

This program runs from 7:00 a.m. until the start of school and from the end of school until 6:00 pm. (We can open earlier upon parent’s request)

A nutritious snack is served daily, before and after school.

Our well-equipped and stimulating classrooms have a quiet study area, books, comfortable couches to rest, large variety of play equipment, board games, manipulative toys, Lego and craft supplies. We believe that play is an integral part of the child’s development.  Our curriculum has been designed to enrich the lives of the children through manipulation, exploration, observation and expression of the individual.

We foster gross motor development using daily gym, large field around our school and a playground.  We walk to various community parks, playgrounds and have field trips to Millwoods Spray Park and Allstars Indoor Playland.

Children bringing their own play/study items are fully responsibility for them.  Use of electronics are supervised and limited to 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon.
